Ongoing training and development

Our Care Assistants receive ongoing training which reflects the latest health and social care standards and best practices. These courses are specifically designed to support Care Assistants at every stage of their career journey, building confidence and fostering skill development within the home care setting.

Our Hallmark of Excellence programme is an 18 month, self guided curriculum designed to build on the initial onboarding training while our refresher courses provide helpful reminders of important best practice.

What is the Hallmark of Excellence?

The Hallmark of Excellence leads on from the initial onboarding training. The course consists of a series of 13 bespoke modules, completed as self study. All content has been carefully composed by us, to enhance our Care Assistant’s knowledge and practices and encourage reflective writing.

Each module dives deeply into specialised topics, giving our Care Assistants the right tools to confidently deliver care with excellence, and is tailored to Bright Care standards.

How has the Hallmark of Excellence training programme been developed?

We were determined to create our own bespoke training course for self study. We wanted to incorporate our own policies and procedures, base the content on the software we use in managing our care services, as well as cross reference to relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

Our aim was to ensure versatility. The learners’ written responses within our modules can be used by those completing S/NVQ qualifications. These responses provide evidence of ongoing professional development, which most carers are required to demonstrate for their personal registration. For carers based in England, this evidence also contributes toward meeting the requirements of the Care Certificate.

What topics are covered in the Hallmark of Excellence?

The course has 13 modules in total. The first two modules focus on self reflection; understanding the Care Assistant role, professional development and our values. The other modules focus on care related topics such as dementia care, client led practices, protecting people and their health, respecting privacy, dignity, confidentiality and supporting palliative care at home.

What benefits does the Hallmark of Excellence have over other e-learning programmes?

The key benefit of our Hallmark of Excellence course is that it has been entirely developed in-house and designed to integrate seamlessly with the Bright Care Training Academy’s onboarding and ongoing learning programme. Unlike many ‘off-the-shelf’ e-learning courses, which are often generic, uninspiring, and disengaging, our Hallmark of Excellence is highly personalised, making it a far more meaningful and rewarding learning experience.

The course is intentionally thought-provoking, rooted in real Bright Care scenarios and processes, and requires genuine commitment to complete all modules. For this reason, achieving the Hallmark of Excellence is something we actively celebrate. It represents our internal graduation award, an acknowledgement that the learner’s dedication, effort, and professional growth have been truly earned.

What feedback have you had on the Hallmark of Excellence training?

Our Care Assistants have fully embraced the Hallmark of Excellence course, working through the modules at their own pace. They have particularly welcomed the move away from generic e-learning, reporting that the personalised approach helps them retain their learning more effectively and apply it confidently in practice. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, not only has the course encouraged carers to reflect on how situations could be approached differently, but it has also supported them in developing their skills with greater confidence.

Our Managers have also shared very positive feedback, highlighting that working so closely with their care teams has been a valuable outcome of the Hallmark of Excellence. The course has helped to foster open and honest conversations, strengthen team dynamics, and further build the trusted one-to-one relationships that we value in Bright Care.

How much does Bright Care Hallmark of Excellence training cost?

All training provided by the Bright Care Training Academy is free of charge.

”I am so proud of the Hallmark of Excellence curriculum we have developed. We have created a comprehensive training programme, covering every aspect of care our team handles daily; from the role of a Carer to providing end-of-Life support. The modules are designed to be reflective and we have found that this has led on to really good conversations at team meetings, with open discussions and sharing of practices amongst the group.
