Carol’s story: becoming a Carer without a background in care

One of the things we love at Bright Care is welcoming people into our family with different backgrounds and experiences. We were honoured to catch up with Carol, one of our dedicated carers in Bright Care Bridge of Allan, about her journey moving from office management into care with Bright Care.

Why did you decide to join Bright Care?

I wasn’t particularly looking for a care job but there was something about the Bright Care advert that drew my attention. The way the advert talked about the job and the opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life really stuck with me. Not being from a care background, I also appreciated that this was not a barrier to joining Bright Care. During my interview I recall saying to the branch team that I liked ‘the cut of Bright Care’s jib’. It’s so refreshing to work for a company that really does care for its staff as well as its clients.

How did you find the transition into the care sector?

I had a career in HR in private, public and charity sectors before moving to office management. In truth, it was very easy to make the transition as at no point was I made to feel that it would be a problem. There is lots of support available and I am lucky to have amazing and patient clients and families.

What do you find challenging about the role?

I am a bit of a perfectionist so knowing if I am doing things correctly with my clients can be a worry for me. That said, I always make sure I ask them if I am doing everything to their liking and I thoroughly enjoy my role.

What do you find particularly rewarding about the role?

To know that I am helping—with my colleagues—support our clients to stay in their own homes. I am very appreciative of the great relationships I’ve developed with my clients, and we undoubtedly have lots of fun together!
