Why become an Overnight Care Assistant

At Bright Care, our experienced and well-trained Overnight Care Assistants provide in-home care and companionship for the elderly. All of our care packages are tailored to the individual needs of our private clients and include daytime, live-in and overnight care.

Our overnight care packages are provided as sleepover care, where the carer wakes when needed by the client, or waking night care, where the carer stays awake all night to look after the client. We also specialise in Dementia and Alzheimer’s care.

We asked Flavia, one of our Overnight Care assistants, about what it is like to provide in-home overnight care for the elderly with Bright Care.

Why did you choose to become an Overnight Care Assistant for the elderly?

I was looking for a care job online, specifically evening work, and I came across Bright Care. I felt it was something I could do, as I am a sympathetic person and I like listening to people’s life stories, so I applied straight away.

Also, the training. I learnt so much and the continual refreshers are really good. I feel supported by my line manager, as I can speak to my colleagues in the office when I need to. In this job you are normally working on your own, so it is important to have support and a personal touch. I like working for Bright Care, it’s a good job and I have clients who I feel at home with, and their families are happy with my work.

Overnight Care Assistant

I like establishing a rapport with my clients. It makes me smile when I see how happy they are to see me on my visits.

What do you find rewarding about your role?

I like establishing a rapport with my clients. It makes me smile when I see how happy they are to see me on my visits. All other aspects of the role can be learnt, but when two characters get on, have a rapport and mutual respect, it makes for a special relationship.

Have you got any advice to those considering a career change into the care industry?

What traits or characteristics do you think make a good Overnight Care Assistant?

You need to put your client first, try and put yourself into their shoes to really understand how they feel. Gain as much information as possible about your client, such as their habits, likes and dislikes. You need to be sympathetic, understanding and have patience, and to have a personal connection with your client.
